Breaking Your Contract May Be Easier Than You Think

Your Contract

A lot of business owners think that because they signed a contract with their commercial cleaner, they are stuck with them until the contract expires. And that’s exactly what a lot of poor quality cleaning companies are counting on.

Commercial cleaners that have high turnover, poor management, inadequate training, or lack of supervision often provide poor service to their clients. Cleaning isn’t done properly, unmotivated crews lack focus, and there may even be theft or damage to property. Regardless of when your contract is set to expire, you shouldn’t have to pay for that kind of poor quality of service.

What to Do

If you are unsatisfied with the quality of the work your commercial cleaning contractor is providing, you may be able to get out of your contract. Most standard contracts include a clause that allows for the contract to be cancelled if specific standards are not met or if the job you are paying for isn’t being performed consistently.

Your first call probably should be to the account manager at your cleaning contractor. In some instances, if you explain your concerns, they may be able to take action to improve performance. It’s a good idea to be prepared to offer proof of your claims, such as photos or video evidence of consistently substandard performance.

Legal Options

If dealing with the company doesn’t give you the results you want, have your business’s legal department or lawyer review the contract. There may be a clause that allows for it to be voided in the event of poor service. Even if there’s not, having your attorney call the commercial cleaning contractor may be the kick in the pants that will inspire them to do better.

The way to avoid these kinds of issues in the first place is to hire commercial cleaners who genuinely care about doing a good job for their clients.
